這個組織會去發掘自願者，讓他們與任何想要聆聽他們故事的人談談自己的人生。在這些「真人書籍」中，有些人是同性戀者、無家可歸者、難民或是更生人。他們說的都是自己克服(: dealing with, handling, tackling or overcoming)生命難題的故事，因此相當有趣。

在真人圖書館的活動中，「讀者」可以從真人書單中挑選可以「被借閱的書」。「讀者」與「讀本」雙方便可以進行私下對談，談話過程中「讀者」可以提問，而「讀本」則會毫無保留地回答。這提供大眾一個可以理解他們一般而言不會接觸、有著非比尋常人生的人的機會。

You can’t step (: walk) into a novel¹ and talk to your favorite characters (about their difficulties in life). But (: Yet,/Still,/However, 可是; 不過; 但是) you can try the next best thing at a Human Library.

This organization² finds volunteers to talk about their lives with anyone who wants to hear about them. Some of these “human books” might be gay, homeless, refugees, or former prisoners. They are interesting because they can tell stories about dealing with life’s difficulties.

At a Human Library event (精心設計的活動; 事件; 盛事), “readers” choose a “book” from a list of people who can be “borrowed.” The two of them have a private³ chat in which (: where) the “reader” asks questions and the “book” talks openly (: in public rather than in private). This offers the public a chance to understand the unusual (: uncommon/unordinary) lives of people they wouldn’t normally⁴ meet (: commonly encounter).

Human Library events happen around (: throughout or all over) the world in public spaces such as schools, neighborhood centers, and even real libraries. If you can’t attend (: go to) a Human Library, there’s still a valuable⁵ (: precious) lesson to be learned: don’t judge⁶ people without really knowing who they are.

 The main reason why Cameron made his video is that he is to teach or instruct people about a social problem, i.e., the racial discrimination.  (2.2句+ 3.1句)

A police officer stops (: prevents/deters/keeps) Cameron and asks for his ID for no reason.  Cameron would most likely say, "Yes, Officer.  No problem." (19 行). 

"Discrimination" means "Treating someone different from you in a hurtful (or harmful) way."

這些警告或許曾經就這樣救了卡麥隆一命。由於種族歧視事件頻繁發生，居住在美國的非裔人必須恪守各種潛規則。如果一位黑人拿起一根糖果棒再把它放回原位，店員還是有可能會指控他偷竊，然而白人就沒那麼容易遭到懷疑。因此，十八歲的卡麥隆時時刻刻都盡量表現出舉止得宜的樣子。

When Cameron Welch was a child, his mother gave him many warnings when he left the house: “Don’t wear a hoodie¹,” “Don’t touch something if you won’t buy it,” or “Don’t leave the house without your ID².”

These warnings might have saved Cameron’s life. Black people in the US must live by³ different rules because of frequent racial discrimination. So, 18-year-old Cameron tries to look polite and well-behaved⁶ at all times⁷.

Cameron recently discussed his mother’s rules in a social media video. He also mentioned, “Don’t put your hands in your pockets” and “Don’t argue with the police, even if they’re wrong.” Other young blacks and Latinos⁸ made comments on the video. They said they received similar guidelines⁹ from their parents. Cameron is sharing his mother’s rules (so as) to help raise (people's) awareness¹⁰ of the fear (that) he lives with every day.
