Owing a Business or Buying a House

Instruction:

You have enough (: sufficient/adequate/ample) money to purchase either a house or a business.  Which would you choose (: single out/pick out/select) to buy (: pick up)?  Give specific reasons to explain (: account for) your choice (: option/alternative).

The Advantages (: Benefits/Profits) of Owning (: Possessing) a Business

Given the opportunity, most people would be delighted to purchase a house or business of their own.  Choosing between the two would be very difficult.  One provides security, while the other offers opportunity.  If I were able to purchase only one, I would choose to buy a business because of the chance it would give me to grow and succeed.”

“There are several reasons why I think purchasing a business would be a better

choice for me. First of all, I would have the opportunity to improve the business and make it more valuable.  Usually (: Commonly), the only way to increase the value of a house is to wait for the market to rise and then sell it.  Second, if I were successful in my business, I would then have enough money to buy a house, too.  In this way, I would have both.  Finally, I am still young, so I can afford to take the risk of choosing a business over a house.  If I should be so unfortunate as to fail in my business, I believe that I am resourceful enough to recover.”

“In short, a business is a better choice for me than a house because I am at a point in my life when I can afford to take some risks.  The opportunity to own a business is also an opportunity to grow.  If I am successful, I will gain both profits and experience; if I fail, I will still gain experience.  But if I do not take the chance, I will not gain anything, either.  After all, nothing ventured, nothing gained.”
