1. Annie filled out (填滿; 每一格都要填)  a long application at the bank (銀行) 

   in order to (: so as to) borrow (借入) some (:  a little ) money from it.

2. Tian can only (: merely; simply; just) stay in the U.S. for three months

  because (: on account that/as) she is not a citizen (公民) of that country.

3. Amy planned a trip to Hawaii 

   because (: on account that) it's the perfect location (: site/spot/place/position)for a vacation.

4. Lisa decided not to buy (: pick up/purchase) a dress (連身洋裝) since (: now that/seeing that < because) it wasn't in the (price) range she wanted to (: longed to) pay.

5. Mary's parents gave (: supplied/offered) her some (pieces of) advice

   to help (: aid/assist) her deal with (: tackle/handle/cope with) her difficult (: hard-to-please) boyfriend.


Ming worries and wonders if they will go on their honeymoon  to Brazil.

Ming and Mei-Mei will not be able to go to Brazil as planned (如同預訂地; as scheduled).

The agent offers (: gives/supplies) (them) to lower (: reduce/cut down upon/cut back on) the price and throw in (免費贈送) a free tour Rio de Janeiro.

However(: Yet/Still), two months before Ming and Mei-Mei leave on their trip, COVID-19 breaks out (爆發).

Ming calls the agent to find out (: discover) if they can still go on the trip to Brazil.

The agent isn't sure (of it).

(1.8) 

He is waiting for (: awaiting) an official (: a formal) announcement from the government (官方) about international travel.

Soon after, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issues (發出; 公布 to tell information to the public) some travel rules.

Only three groups are allowed to travel in Brazil.

These are Brazilian citizens (公民), those who (: people who 凡是那些) are related (: relative) to citizens, and those who have jobs there.

The few people who are allowed to visit (: pay a visit to/call at) Brazil

must (: have to) follow (: go by/live by/abide by/keep/observe/obey) strict rules.

They must (: have) get a COVID-19 test, provide a travel plan, and place (: put/lay) themselves under quarantine (隔離檢疫).


The airport has __been___ closed (: shut down) due to (: because of) the heavy snow storm.

Thomas was supposed to open the store at nine a.m., but he was late getting to work.
